Flight Training

Introductory Flights

We want to invite you to come and feel the exhilarating experience of flying an aircraft accompanied by an experienced Flight Instructor who will show you the ins and outs during your half hour flight and answer all your questions that you may have.  On landing, you will be given a tour of our facilities and some light refreshments while we discuss your flight experience and also what we can offer you in terms of training. The good thing of an Intro flight is that if you do decide to go ahead with your training, that half hour flight will be considered and added on your personal flight log book as training.

When can I Fly?

We are open seven days a week but recommend that your weekend flight must be booked well in advance to avoid disappointment.

What is the minimum and maximum age?

You need to be a minimum of 16 years old to fly solo and 17 to pass the Flight Test but we have students that are only 14 and enjoying the pleasures of the open sky.

Currently there is no maximum age restriction although a regular aviation medical is recommended.

How often should I Fly?

We recommend that you fly at least once a week or, if you are able to, more often to maintain your training continuity or you can fly as far as your finances suit you.  It is very important to ensure that your log is always kept up to date as this is a legal requirement.

What aircraft will I train on?

You can either start on a Cessna 152, Cessna 172 or a Piper PA28-181. Cessna’s are the most popular training aircrafts in the world. All aircrafts are very stable and are ideally suited to start your training with.

How long will it take to get my license?

When studying full time it generally takes approximately 3 months to attain a PPL and 16 months to 2 years for a Commercial Pilots License (full time students will fly between 4 and 6 times a week)

What can I do with a Private Pilots License?

A Private Pilots License is generally seen as a learners license in order to obtain a Commercial License. However the PPL is also a hobby license for many people not pursuing aviation as a career and would rather fly the family and friends around on weekends etc. The major difference between PPL and CPL is that you may not work for remuneration as a PPL Pilot.

Where are we situated?

Our school is at Rand Airport, opposite the control tower. If you enter the main gates, you will find our entrance about 200 meters further on. There is a large banner sign which shows the way clearly.
